check up

Miles went for his nine month checkup on Monday. Overall it went really well, besides the shots but that was expected. He is 22 1/2 lbs which puts him in the 87th percentile for weight, and he was I think 29 1/2 inches which is the 92nd for height. That won't last long! I did start to buy him 12-18 month clothes though because his 6-12 month ones are getting tight. By Thanksgiving he will be eating some table foods (bananas, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, peas, etc.), how exciting! I am looking forward to it even though baby food is so easy.

Daylight savings time really was challenging to get him to sleep later. It ended up taking 3 or 4 days for him to get used to the new schedule. He is doing fine now. We have been putting him in his bed totally awake (we thought that would help him adjust to time change as well). He has been doing fine with it until the last few days he is standing in his crib. I don't mind this (we lowered his mattress so he can't get out) but he is wild and careless in there. Yesterday I was trying to let him tire himself out by playing in there. Then he is holding on to his crib trying to get his mobile (which has been taken down) and fell and hit is head on the edge of the crib. Then he screams and so I went in and got him to sleep. It seems that he gets so excited to be in there to play that he can't stop pulling himself up and bouncing around.

He is getting so funny. Grandma O bought him a car last week for him to ride in. He LOVES to chase norm around in his car. I will post a video later, it is hysterical. Half of the time he screams in an excited way instead of laughing. I love it. He just seems like a happy go lucky, crazy, funny little guy who likes to have fun.

9 months!

This fall has flown by already. I think I've figured out why. When I was growing up, if I was having a bad day or going through normal teenage drama, my dad would always give me this advice. Pick a few things in the future that you are looking forward to. It could be tomorrow, next week, or next month, and focus on those events. Don't dwell on how you feel today. I think with a baby you subconsciously do this on a daily basis. You live in increments based on your baby's schedule. The next feeding, the next trip out, bed time, bath time, nap time, etc. are all events that you look forward to and it just makes the time FLY. Before you know it it's 5 p.m. and you are both still in your pajamas (okay this happens to Ben quite frequently but I get in the shower on Miles first nap!!).

Miles is showing more and more personality every day. I have a feeling he may not crawl for long. He doesn't do it yet but he gets up on his hands and feet (bypasses the knees) and pulls himself to standing next to the couch, excersaucer, or if we are laying on the floor he does it on us too. Ben and I laugh because he seems to be a loud, silly baby which we are neither particularly silly nor loud. We think it is funny that Miles has those characteristics so far.
He still just has two bottom teeth but I think a few more could be lurking. It's hard to tell. The first one came through and we didn't notice but after the second I was pretty sure he was bipolar. Let's keep our fingers crossed for the next 18 or so.

Here are a few favorite things of his:

1. A sippy cup with water. Loves it.
2. His radio flyer cart that my cousin gave us. We pull him around the house in it and he loves to keep his hand gently on the back left wheel. Evidently just wants to make sure its working okay.
3. Tearing up magazines. He loves the ripping, crunching and flailing of this activity. We let him do it with a newspaper once until we realized he had black hands. Whoopsie.
4. Giving himself kisses in the dining room mirror.
5. Textured books. One book has burlap in it and he can't get enough scratching at it. I don't mind. It files his nails.
