March

Our little Miles is something else. I'm not sure how he has so much spunk but he goes and goes and goes from sun up til sun down. And we love it. Well, we do get really tired chasing him around but we still think he is funny. Here is a recap of ole MBD in the last month.
-He loves to look underneath closed doors. Weird, I know but he gets down on the floor and tries to look underneath, he especially loves it when there is a light on behind the closed door and it shines through just a little bit.

-He likes to stomp his feet when he gets his shoes on. It kind of looks like he's tap dancing but for Ben's sake, lets say he's stomping.

-He tries (keyword: tries) to repeat everything you say, and is quite chatty and loud. He'll talk to strangers, norm, yells out the windows, etc. Pretty friendly little guy.

-Obsessed with the great outdoors. Could walk aimlessly around all day up and down the driveway, looking at plants, picking up mulch, and "chasing" norm. I got him a "water table" because I love how much bright colored plastic looks on our deck. Such a nice touch. Never say never.
-Claps. Seems like other babies did this a lot earlier but he is just now clapping. And it's a wild clap. He's even been seen sitting up in his crib and clapping when he wakes up.

-Likes sitting on the porch listening to the little white dog across the street (named marshmallow I might add) bark at everything/everyone. He likes it. Ben and I on the other hand have different feelings about marshmallow.

-Parks. We hit up the park behind our house every few days at least and he really likes watching big kids play. Its like he thinks he knows what they are talking about and is always trying to get in on their conversations.

-I've started taking him to LePeep for breakfast on Fridays. Ben's work has started back full force so I thought breakfast on Fridays would be good for M and I. Plus every other week the cleaning ladies are there so we can get out of their way. He does great. Except he stares people down. For example: this guy. He thought he was going to go have coffee and a nice breakfast. Instead he has a baby turned around 90 degrees in his high chair staring him down for 30 minutes. The poor guy was trying to act like he was busy on his blackberry (that i'm sure he didn't know how to use) and would look up every now and then and smile at Miles, to which Miles would laugh and keep staring. It was awkward. I couldn't distract him with anything. Jelly packets, pancakes, cheerios, bananas, sippy cup, toys. I'll just have to face Miles out to the restaurant next time so he can see everyone!

Toast monster!

Miles is liking more and more foods. Toast with butter is his favorite so far, at least of what we allow him to have. Like his parents, he also has a soft spot in his heart for chick fil a. He would eat it every meal if we let him but for now it's a lot of toast, and fruit and veg. baby food. He still likes it so until he'll eat real sweet potatoes and bananas, baby food it is! (with some chick fil a treats here and there)

Firsts.

A few new things.
1. We took miles to the monon center indoor pool on Wednesday and he loved it. Was belly laughing after sticking his face in the water over and over. Got so excited after 20 min. pooped in his swim diaper. Got him out and changed him and decided we were not up for getting him ready to get back in the pool. We bought a punch card so we'll be back. It was a blast. Then ben snagged a b ball and miles and I watched and ate goldfish.

*sidenote: when we were checking in there was an irate mom complaining about this toddler open gym and how there weren't enough toys in there. OBVIOUSLY she needed a break and shouldve taken her kids to a babysitter if that was the case. Made me realize how I don't want to act. She should be embarrassed. Shame on her for acting that way in front of her 4 yr. olds.

2. Miles loves brushing his teeth. Actually he loves sucking on his toothbrush and eating the toothpaste off but hes great about letting me actually brush his pearly whites.

3. Pooped in the tub for the first time last week. Funniest/grossest thing I've ever seen. Enough said.

4. Obsessed with real milk instead of formula. Actually ben and I are pretty excited about it too. So much easier and cheaper. We are finding out that we go through it faster than we think and have made a few cvs runs this week for more.

5. He marches to the beat of his own drum. He now hightails it away from me when he sees me grab a diaper or if he thinks I am going to take something from him. He doesn't even know how to run but he moves as fast as those chubby little legs will allow.
He can be quite a stinker but at this stage it makes him that much more hilarious.

Loving the pool

Watching his favorite show, wheel of fortune, while drinking milk before bed.

Home away from home: nordstrom ebar.
*sidenote: you might think "was kristyn mall-jogging?" the answer is no I'm just waiting on ben to have a weak moment and tell me he'd LOVE for me to get the stroller I've been wanting for over 6 months now.

walk of shame.

five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
five hundred twenty five thousand moments so dear
five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
how do you measure, measure a year?

in daylights in sunsets
in midnights, in cups of coffee
in inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife
in five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
how do you measure a year in the life?

i'm measuring it in the times i get to walk in the door and see that sweet face smiling back at me.

our sweet miles turned one year old. we celebrated by taking him to le peep for pancakes. one of the few foods he enjoys eating. then he went to his gymboree class with his grandma and hung out with her for the afternoon. saturday was the birthday bash. 30 + people in your house + first birthday chaos = 2 excedrin for mom. it was fun and we are glad we did it. it IS a big deal. it's a small miracle that we made it through the first year. miles i'd never doubt but ben and i have come a long way! i don't even know what else to say about the first year. it was the most rewarding learning experience ever.

miles went for his 1 year checkup the monday after his birthday party. he was acting a little funny that morning but it's hard telling with babies this age if they are hungry, tired, teething, etc. we get in there and the doctor wants to look at his ears and miles was not having it. we end up having to put him on the table and hold him down. he was so ticked off and upset and i couldn't get him calmed down, even after the doctor said his ears were fine and left. i'm trying to settle him down before the nurse comes back in to give him his shots, and he pukes EVERYWHERE. all over himself, all the way down my right side, and all over the floor. mom of the year had no extra clothes in his bag so we just held him down once more, got his shots over with, and walked quickly past the nurses station, check in area, and waiting room. it turned out he had a stomach virus that lasted a few days but i think he is back to normal now.

p.s. This post has been saved as a draft since the day after the doctor. Just now finally posting!
