1.5

Little big man is 18 months old. He continues to have new loves every week. Lately he's been really into reading books, iPad apps that my dad discovers, standing on a crate to put things into the washer (I recently washed a plastic golf club), and sometimes will give into kisses, but likes to dish out the hugs. He is a man of many words, right now you just can't really understand him. There have been a few words that I think I've picked up on such as "outside, Norman, and Jacob". We are so blessed to have such a happy, healthy and handsome little boy.

Speaking of healthy, he has had a few viruses this summer that have only lasted a few days but has been 103 degree fevers, a few throw ups, and not sleeping well. His last one happened to come the weekend of my family girls weekend that we have been doing for 11 years now. We call it a girls weekend because unless you are nursing a baby boy, no other boys are allowed.
So Friday morning miles wakes up moaning and fussy. I was keeping my fingers crossed that it was just teeth so I took him to target with me and stocked up on supplies for Ben for the weekend (including ibuprofen and some extra pacifiers). He seemed a little better so we got home, gave him lunch, and I put him down for a nap and headed to Chicago, hoping lunch, motrin and a good nap would do the trick. He slept two hours, which was good, then Ben took him to the south side to go to a farm with Ted, Ashely and the kids. Normally miles would be all over this and getting up in the animals faces. Well Ben said he laid his head on bens shoulder the whole time and Ben couldn't put him down. He got him home and knew he had a fever (miles will not let you check his temp even though we have the 3 sec. one, something we should probably work on). So he gave him Motrin and couldn't get him to eat dinner so he put him to bed. To make a long story short, miles was up crying every few hours so Ben was then alternating Tylenol/Motrin. I don't know who I felt more sorry for, Ben or miles. At around 3:30 am Ben texted me and said miles was throwing up everywhere. Ben had to work on Saturday and m was going to hang with erin and her kids. I couldn't ask her to watch him while sick and I knew ben needed to go to work because they were having a tournament. So what did I do? Hopped in the car at 3:55 a.m. and drove home! I had been planning this weekend for about 8 mo. :( I was home by the time m woke up and he seemed a little better. Ben said if he would have been that way all along he would have never agreed to let me come home. I believe him. I think Ben was doing all he could and was nervous and stressed because he just didn't know what to do and didn't have help. I took a shower and gave m a bath and I put that boy in the car and we headed back to chi-town!!! He didn't throw up anymore but still had a fever and wanted to be held. Thank god I had an amazing posse of family women that were helpful. I hope he didn't crash girls weekend but you gotta do what you gotta do, right? I was glad I went back. Every occasion like that, even though it's difficult, I feel like makes me a better mom. Especially when you have those nights where you think "I can't do this". I guess like my mom says "you can and you will". For your entertainment, here are a few pics:

When he woke up, looking a little rough.

"mom, I win AGAIN!"

"I love Chicago. All I had to do is vomit all over dad to get here."

Side note: on my way out of Chicago around 4 am, I honestly had to wake up a toll booth attendant so I could pay and go through. Whew, that weekend will go in the memory books for me!
