Memorial Day '12

This memorial day we ventured to fishers for a get together at jon and stacies. This party would have been pure misery if you were there and didn't have kids. Obviously.

Quote of the week.

Last night we are laying in bed and I was looking at my phone and said:

"I love how all these people are tweeting and posting pictures on Facebook about their big 500 parties. Get a life people."

Ben said:
"what? We are laying in bed on a Saturday night at 9:30 with a 200 lb. dog between us watching the golf channel. Who needs to get a life?"

We both busted out body-shaking-tearful-uncontrollable laughs for about five minutes afterwards.

I love my life.

And because it wouldn't be a true blog post without a pic of our mini, here is one from this week. He loves the splashing and water at west park. Photo courtesy of Linda's new iPhone!

15 mo.

Yesterday we went for miles 15 mo. check up. It was supposed to be a few weeks ago but we had to reschedule for yesterday. I think I posted about our experience last time. Anyways, when I was rescheduling, his dr didn't have anything til the end of the month so I was kind of excited to try out the lady in the practice who I know from when I worked at primrose. Nicest person ever. So his appt was at 3 and so I picked him up from Linda's at 2:40 and was there on time. Ben was able to sneak out of work and meet me there. Now it's almost 3:30 and we still hadn't been called back. I really didn't want miles running around trying to talk to everyone in the waiting room but that is pretty much what happened. Finally we got called back and m was just a different boy this time. He wouldn't sit on the baby scale, so he stood on the big boy scale. He didn't want anything to do with the nurse. Didn't want to get measured, temp taken, anything. We got him calmed down after she left and then the door opens and in walks m's doc, the man not the woman. I said "um I didn't think we were seeing you today?". Anyways I told him the story and was honest about miles having a terrible time at his one year checkup. He said its normal and that he sees kids like miles react that way because they're so independent and are used to doing their own thing. he said he sees it especially with little boys. Poor miles. He freaked out even when the doc was trying to listen to his heartbeat or lungs or whatever he was trying to hear. Miles was like a caged animal crying crocodile tears. Felt so bad for him. Then the nurse came in, gave him a shot in each leg, and we were finally out of there at 4:15. In five years I'll look back at this and say no big deal but right
now my heart breaks for little m.

I've been with him all afternoon and he has no appetite, a little fever, and doesn't want to play.

.........

I wrote that on Wednesday night. Fast forward to Saturday night. Little guy is all better, but still getting those nasty molars.

Here is a pic from earlier in the week:

And here is one on Wednesday afternoon:

Is it not so sad? I toyed with the idea of doing some research on homeopathy. Just kidding, it would be our luck that one of us would get some wacky disease. We made it though! Praise sweet Jesus for giving us a little patience and for Starbucks! (and when we go at the time miles wakes up, it's so early you don't have to slow down through the school zones.) Woot woot!

A fourteen month update, and lots of other random things.

MBD got his pictures taken a few weeks ago and we are so happy with them. He is great about smiling but not always great about sitting/standing still. The photographer had a cute bench for him to sit on in the woods. Not a chance. He'd rather pick up rocks and sticks and "run" down the walk path.

Instead of uploading all of them, you can see them here:

He gets more and more "personality" every day. Lately, he likes to do things to try to make you laugh. For example, I will be rocking him to sleep and he will start hitting me in the face and trying to stick his hands in my mouth to get a reaction. I can't be mad at him for that. He's not doing it to be mean or because he's mad, he just wants to laugh and get me to laugh. Then as soon as I indicate I think it's a little charming he busts out the most devilish big kid laugh you've ever heard. It's classic. At that point I just have to put him in his crib and let him go to sleep on his own because I know in my mind we are getting nowhere. I thought it was just me but he has done it to my mom as well. Doesn't seem to do it to Ben, he knows dad means business.

He's in love with chick fil a. Anything from there really. Grilled chicken, chicken nuggets, applesauce, ice cream, etc. My kind of guy.

Today we are heading to his pal Elaine's first birthday party. I am taking him solo because Ben will be working but he usually does well when he can people watch. Cousin Sam will also be there so that will be fun.

Last week I took him to West Park on my way home from grabbing a few things at Target (not a good idea). We couldn't stay long because I had gotten some meat that was in the car and I needed to get it in the refrigerator. So we went for about 15-20 minutes and I let him swing, walk around looking at people, and pick up mulch. I thought we better go so I headed back to the car with him. That's when he unleashed something I have never seen before. Screaming, real tears, kicking, arched back, etc. You get the picture. I couldn't stop laughing because it was that ridiculous, which made him even more angry with me. I had to bust open the graham crackers I had just bought at Target and luckily I had a bottle of water and sippy cup in the car so I gave him some water. Once I got him buckled in and started the car he was fine and was laughing by the time we got home. I'm sure this is the fi rst of many of those moments. Here is a pic pre-meltdown.

He loves sunglasses. He will not take them off, we have to take them off of him when we go inside because he would wear them all day if he could. It's almost embarrassing.

We ran across this baby picture of Ben this week. And let's just say Miles looks exactly like him. It's starting to freak me out.

He is risen! He is risen indeed.

Happy Easter! This little bunny has been so good today. We were just going to go to brunch with bens fam and to my moms for an Easter egg hunt this afternoon but when I was talking to my pal erin yesterday about Easter plans I said "I dont think we're going to go to church, just brunch." The minute those words left my mouth I thought that's crazy, it's Easter, get it together. So sure enough we did and headed to southport Presbyterian for the 9:30 Easter service. Like a champ, miles snoozed for 15 minutes on the way there and was ready to play with cousin remy when we arrived.
Then we had brunch with the entire Davidson clan at bravo and somehow he stayed awake the whole way home. Hes sleeping now and when he wakes up were headed back out for more fun at the 1st annual oliver Easter eggstravaganza! Grandpa bob will surely have no shortage of eggs for his two favorite little guys.

March

Our little Miles is something else. I'm not sure how he has so much spunk but he goes and goes and goes from sun up til sun down. And we love it. Well, we do get really tired chasing him around but we still think he is funny. Here is a recap of ole MBD in the last month.
-He loves to look underneath closed doors. Weird, I know but he gets down on the floor and tries to look underneath, he especially loves it when there is a light on behind the closed door and it shines through just a little bit.

-He likes to stomp his feet when he gets his shoes on. It kind of looks like he's tap dancing but for Ben's sake, lets say he's stomping.

-He tries (keyword: tries) to repeat everything you say, and is quite chatty and loud. He'll talk to strangers, norm, yells out the windows, etc. Pretty friendly little guy.

-Obsessed with the great outdoors. Could walk aimlessly around all day up and down the driveway, looking at plants, picking up mulch, and "chasing" norm. I got him a "water table" because I love how much bright colored plastic looks on our deck. Such a nice touch. Never say never.
-Claps. Seems like other babies did this a lot earlier but he is just now clapping. And it's a wild clap. He's even been seen sitting up in his crib and clapping when he wakes up.

-Likes sitting on the porch listening to the little white dog across the street (named marshmallow I might add) bark at everything/everyone. He likes it. Ben and I on the other hand have different feelings about marshmallow.

-Parks. We hit up the park behind our house every few days at least and he really likes watching big kids play. Its like he thinks he knows what they are talking about and is always trying to get in on their conversations.

-I've started taking him to LePeep for breakfast on Fridays. Ben's work has started back full force so I thought breakfast on Fridays would be good for M and I. Plus every other week the cleaning ladies are there so we can get out of their way. He does great. Except he stares people down. For example: this guy. He thought he was going to go have coffee and a nice breakfast. Instead he has a baby turned around 90 degrees in his high chair staring him down for 30 minutes. The poor guy was trying to act like he was busy on his blackberry (that i'm sure he didn't know how to use) and would look up every now and then and smile at Miles, to which Miles would laugh and keep staring. It was awkward. I couldn't distract him with anything. Jelly packets, pancakes, cheerios, bananas, sippy cup, toys. I'll just have to face Miles out to the restaurant next time so he can see everyone!
