dr. glass, medicine woman.

This lady was a-m-a-z-i-n-g. First of all, we get there and I say to Ben, I'm gonna run in and fill out the paperwork so get miles out of the and take your time coming in. Before I got the one sheet filled out they called us back. Already off to a good start. We walk back to the room, the nurse ("Evelyn") opened the door and guess what was plastered all over the room?
CATS!!!!! YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
First we saw this cat poster:

The nurse was asking us a bunch of questions and Miles starts talking and pointing up at the ceiling. We look up and this is on the ceiling. A cover on the fluorescent light:

Hahahaha, creepy to us, maybe, but Miles felt like these cats were going to be his guardian angels  looking down on him. Miles did get a little nervous about the nurse putting the tape measure around his head but not bad. Then Dr. Glass came in. Seriously I'm in love with this woman. She came in, said hi to Miles and sat a bucket of toys down and started talking to Ben and I. Miles got down and handed her the toys out of the bucket one by one, which she proceeded to line up on the edge of the table so he could see them. She told him she liked his IU shirt and that she went to IU. Another plus. :) He didn't like her checking him out but she continued to talk to him in a sweet voice and was very quick doing it. She asked us if we had any height in our families. I wanted to say "um, no. you should see his grandpas!" She said he is in the 95th percentile for height at a whopping 34 inches tall. At 27.5 lbs, he is in the 74th for weight. So he got his flu shot and one other one and doesn't have to get anymore until he goes to kindergarten. woohoo. And he doesn't go back for another check up until he is two.

Just love our sweet boy. Some days I feel like my heart jumped out of my chest and is walking around with the name of Miles.

Here is one more picture (after the doctor was finished) pushing around one of her toys on her stool.

18 mo. check up.

never happened. we were all geared up to go back to the doc (after a few rough visits. one of which miles puked in the doctors office and the other which we had an hour wait, keep in mind the pediatrician office shares a waiting room with an immediate care office) and he was sick for a week afterwards. He either picked up a virus in that office or the shots made him sick. Either way, not a good couple of experiences. So Thursday was his 18 month wellness checkup where pretty much test his awesomeness. ha. We also knew he was scheduled for another round of vaccines and then didn't have to get anymore until he is five. His appointment was at 3:30 so I told linda i would pick him up at three. She put him down for a nap at 12:15 and at 2:45 he was still sleeping so she woke him up to get him ready for his appt. Then she texted me and said maybe it was because he just got up but he was feeling feverish. Greeeaaaaaaat. We haven't even gotten to the drs. office and he's already got a fever. I talked it over with ben and we said screw it. We have been thinking about switching pediatricians for a while and we figured there was no sense in taking him one more time and to just start fresh with his 18 mo. checkup with a new doc. We think he needs a lady doc and we love the lady in our current office but thought we'd just switch all together. So Monday is the big day. Let's hope "Dr. Glass" is as sweet as can be to our precious "bitty" as we like to call him. I don't want him to be scared of his doctor and so it was time for a switch. Our "old" doc was nice and I like his thinking on things but let's be honest. Miles warms up to ladies a lot easier than men.
I'll be sure to post an update on Monday! Say a prayer for a good experience!!!

Oh, and Miles is doing better. He did have a fever Thursday and Friday but may be his teeth and seemed more normal this morning before I left him for the day with Grammy Marcia.

Last weekend we had some good friends of ours visit from Atlanta for the weekend. Laura was my college roommate and wish she lived closer! Adam and Laura have an adorable little gal named Caroline who came along as well. Norm was thrilled with visitors who loved on him.

Blog worthy.

Ben just said: "watching this (women's beach volleyball) is like watching the back nine of the masters."

Thought that should be recorded somewhere.

1.5

Little big man is 18 months old. He continues to have new loves every week. Lately he's been really into reading books, iPad apps that my dad discovers, standing on a crate to put things into the washer (I recently washed a plastic golf club), and sometimes will give into kisses, but likes to dish out the hugs. He is a man of many words, right now you just can't really understand him. There have been a few words that I think I've picked up on such as "outside, Norman, and Jacob". We are so blessed to have such a happy, healthy and handsome little boy.

Speaking of healthy, he has had a few viruses this summer that have only lasted a few days but has been 103 degree fevers, a few throw ups, and not sleeping well. His last one happened to come the weekend of my family girls weekend that we have been doing for 11 years now. We call it a girls weekend because unless you are nursing a baby boy, no other boys are allowed.
So Friday morning miles wakes up moaning and fussy. I was keeping my fingers crossed that it was just teeth so I took him to target with me and stocked up on supplies for Ben for the weekend (including ibuprofen and some extra pacifiers). He seemed a little better so we got home, gave him lunch, and I put him down for a nap and headed to Chicago, hoping lunch, motrin and a good nap would do the trick. He slept two hours, which was good, then Ben took him to the south side to go to a farm with Ted, Ashely and the kids. Normally miles would be all over this and getting up in the animals faces. Well Ben said he laid his head on bens shoulder the whole time and Ben couldn't put him down. He got him home and knew he had a fever (miles will not let you check his temp even though we have the 3 sec. one, something we should probably work on). So he gave him Motrin and couldn't get him to eat dinner so he put him to bed. To make a long story short, miles was up crying every few hours so Ben was then alternating Tylenol/Motrin. I don't know who I felt more sorry for, Ben or miles. At around 3:30 am Ben texted me and said miles was throwing up everywhere. Ben had to work on Saturday and m was going to hang with erin and her kids. I couldn't ask her to watch him while sick and I knew ben needed to go to work because they were having a tournament. So what did I do? Hopped in the car at 3:55 a.m. and drove home! I had been planning this weekend for about 8 mo. :( I was home by the time m woke up and he seemed a little better. Ben said if he would have been that way all along he would have never agreed to let me come home. I believe him. I think Ben was doing all he could and was nervous and stressed because he just didn't know what to do and didn't have help. I took a shower and gave m a bath and I put that boy in the car and we headed back to chi-town!!! He didn't throw up anymore but still had a fever and wanted to be held. Thank god I had an amazing posse of family women that were helpful. I hope he didn't crash girls weekend but you gotta do what you gotta do, right? I was glad I went back. Every occasion like that, even though it's difficult, I feel like makes me a better mom. Especially when you have those nights where you think "I can't do this". I guess like my mom says "you can and you will". For your entertainment, here are a few pics:

When he woke up, looking a little rough.

"mom, I win AGAIN!"

"I love Chicago. All I had to do is vomit all over dad to get here."

Side note: on my way out of Chicago around 4 am, I honestly had to wake up a toll booth attendant so I could pay and go through. Whew, that weekend will go in the memory books for me!
