this little piggy went to market...

I've had a lot of quality time lately with Miles. Saturday morning we went to the Carmel farmer's market where we got peppers, peaches, a cherry pie and some bread from Scholar's Inn. He also saw some amish people for the first time. :) Our little guy will be six months in just two weeks. What does this mean?
1. Some friends borrowed my baby scale. We got it back and put him on it and he was 18 lbs. 15 oz. The kid likes food.
2. He now uses 6-12 months pacifiers. This really is not a big deal other than the pacifier is a bit bigger and he seems to think it is a lollipop.
3. He has grown out of his 3-6 month clothes. :(
4. He goes for his 6 mo. checkup on August 2nd, where the doc will probably tell me to start baby food. How exciting!
5. He is sleeping from about 7:30 p.m. until 6 a.m. I'll take it!
6. He is loving his excersaucer. It is obnoxiously noisy and doesn't go great with the living room furniture but whatever. As Erin put it, I feel like God gave me a hug when he started playing in it.
7. He is getting more and more hair everyday, and we think he is as cute as a button.
8. He now sits like a big boy in his high chair and loves it as well. Here is a pic. He looks a touch Asian but I know his dad and I know there is no Asian in that man.
9. Now that Miles is old enough, I can start jogging with him! I picked up some new running shoes this week and ordered a jogging stroller! As soon as it cools down outside, if that ever happens, we are starting family runs. Norm is still deciding if he wants to participate. He may like the couch better. Soooo excited.

First family vacation, kind of.

So here I am blogging from my phone in bed, at 8:39 I might add. We had our first trip last week to Lake Michigan with Jonathan, Stacie, and Sam. My parents were also there for two of the days. Ben played in the Indiana Open in northern Indiana and just drove back and forth each day. Jonathan caddied for him one day so he had some company. He finished 16th, so good job ben! The tournament was four days so three of the days it was me, miles, jonathan, stacie and sam. J&S were so helpful but it was a tiring week.
Miles is doing great sleeping in his crib on his own room at home but we maybe weren't ready for a pack n play trip. So we rented a condo and he stayed in the room with us. I wanted ben to try to get sleep so I got up and gave him his pacifier multiple times a night. (miles, not ben, although at this point ben probably wished he had a paci too) The day we left we had to leave at 5:45 am. I was up with miles at 4:30 so I thought well I might as well go ahead and finish packing our stuff up. The next thing I know I wake up on the floor next to my suitcase. At that point I thought get me home. Oh and we also quickly realized how difficult it was to go to dinner with our little guys. The last night our brains finally kicked in. We wanted a GOOD meal, not the same crap we had eaten all week. So Jonathan ( who is known for reading reviews) found us a place about 20 miles away in the gay capital of the state. We knew this was a nice restaurant so we planned to get carryout so everyone else in the restaurant could peacefully eat. Stacie called and the lady told her they don't take orders over the phone. So next, in my car, we load up stac and I in the front, 2 babies with carseats in the middle, two dads in the third row made for midgets, and two strollers/diaper bags/etc. I don't know if we resembled Noahs ark or a traveling circus but it was a sight. Totally worth it, the food was unbelievably delicious and we had some good laughs along the way. Overall we had a ton of fun over the course of the week and it was also very tiring, but probably a good experience for us too. Oh, and I don't have any pics to post yet because we smashed my phone in the process of cramming a stroller into the car to get the carryout...
It's now 8:55 and way past my bedtime. Goodnight blog readers!

lately

Last week was busy but fun. Ben was working nonstop so Thursday night I loaded up Mr. Miles and we went to stay at Grandma/Grandpa's condo. Grandpa wasn't there so Mom helped me with Miles during the night. It was difficult sleeping in the same room as him (he slept in the pack n play) because he was constan
tly making noises that would wake me up, then I would impulsively get up and stick his pacifier back in his mouth. Then Friday night was my first night away from the little man. It was our Hacker Girls Weekend for 2011. We went downtown to dinner and then took a limo to the Kenny Chesney concert, none of those things are necessarily baby friendly. So since Ben was working, Grammy Marcia came to the rescue. She slept upstairs to tend to Miles during the night and Ben slept downstairs. This was thelast straw with the whole. She got up 8 times with him! Oops. After some much needed pep talks from my sister in laws, we decided it was time for the big boy to sleep like a big boy. I had to laugh to myself because Ashely asked me what I do when I go in at night and I said "well, i give him his paci, roll him back on his side, rub his back, and he farts." She said "that is ridiculous!" Looking back it totally is but when its your sweet little bundle in there screaming for you its hard not to get up, even if it is for the 8th time. Anyways, much thanks to Grandma O and Grammy M for being our saving grace so far this summer and stepping in to help out. And just as much thanks to my sister in laws for talking some sense into me. Now I am proud to say we put him down around 8 and he sleeps until around 6. Last night he did wake up around 4 but only fussed for about 10 minutes and put himself back to sleep, without any help from Ben or I. Whew, things are looking better and better, and I have more energy to sing "The Wheels on the Bus" to him 67 times per day.
Here are some other current obsessions:
1. Aden & Anais sleep sacks
2. Clean, fresh burp cloths
3. Sitting on my rocking chair on the back deck
4. Baby boy swim trunks
5. CVS coupons (I feel like a coupon freak)
6. Making Miles giggle
7. Watching him grab his feet, especially on the changing table (I'm sure you have a great mental picture of what that looks like)

The Hacker/Shockley/Oliver/Sears Clan: (if Grandma Hacker was still here she would have 16 great grandkids!!!)

Up next:
The 4th of July and Sam's Birthday Party!
