NYE 2012
One word. Overrated. We did not stay up until midnight nor did we attend any parties that required sequins. That's okay. We hung out at home and made salmon from fresh market. That was the extent of it!
Christmas 2012
I'm going to have to play catch up here for a bit to get up to date. Christmas was a complete whirlwind this year. Starting with my birthday on the 21st. We had the Davidson family Christmas that day with just the immediate family. We picked Miles up from school around 3:30 and when I picked him up he was having a snack and playing. We wished the teachers a Merry Christmas and hopped in the car to head to Greenwood. We have a DVD player in the car that kept skipping so Ben handed Miles his phone for something to look at on the trip. A few minutes after we had been on 37 it starts. Miles starts coughing and then starts projectile vomiting everywhere. And by everywhere it was on the car door. Ben and I look at each other like "uh, what now?" I called Grammy Marcia and told her to get the towels ready, because we were going to need a few, or a lot. We got him there and it was a tag team effort. Marcia and I cleaned him up and Ben and Larry cleaned the carseat/car. After he was clean and his clothes were changed (thank goodness we had thrown his pajamas in a bag), he was good as new. We think he got car sick from looking down at the phone. We won't let him have a phone in the car again. It ended up being a fun night and we were relieved he wasn't really sick.
The 22nd we just hung around home and then the 23rd we went back to Greenwood for the Davidson/Hillenburg Christmas. It was great. The kids were all in good moods and we had a fun time. We got home and put Miles to bed and went to bed. About 3:30 a.m. I woke up with a stomach ache thinking "no, I'm just going to go back to sleep and it will go away." Well that didn't happen. I threw up from 3:30 - 9:30 on Christmas Eve. Miles and Ben were fine. It was one of those days I was so happy to be married to Ben. He totally took over. Played with Miles in the basement most of the day while I stayed in bed. I was bummed we were missing Christmas Eve church and our Oliver Christmas. Before I knew it Ben had gone to Panera to get soup, gave Miles a bath, and had put his Christmas pajamas on him. Sounds like not a big deal but it brought tears to my eyes. After Miles went to bed, I managed to get up and help Ben get Miles' Christmas stuff set up for morning......
Christmas morning Miles was underwhelmed. He is a little too young to understand Santa and presents so I think Ben and I had more fun getting him a few things than he did. My parents brought us food on Christmas Day (their leftovers from Christmas Eve). We ended up doing our Oliver' Christmas on Friday of that week. It was just as fun but not quite the same without it being Christmas Eve.

Thanks and giving.
I came across this blog post tonight and I just had to share. What a perfect time for this to put me in my place. It's so hard to always be grateful when you are so easily distracted by other things in life, many of which are not important. I'll be honest, I get a bit annoyed with the daily Facebook posts about being thankful. Those peeps need to head to Barnes & Noble (or Oliver's Twist, whichever is closer) and pick up a Gratitude journal ASAP. However, I understand the shift in attitude from complaining to gratitude and for that you've got to respect their thinking. This thanksgiving, I'm thankful for:
1. Reading this post to help me put things in to prospective.
http://www.handsfreemama.com/2012/11/20/today-let-me-appreciate/
2. Our health.
3. This precious little person who has spunk like no one I've ever seen.

4. Grandparents who love miles to pieces.
5. A job I love.
6. A husband I love even more. He's my BFF, my partner in crime, my Starbucks deliverer, and the best dad. Life is so much easier with him around and I'm so blessed to have him.
7. A perfect God and the freedom to worship Him.
Cheers to a great thanksgiving twenty twelve.

too cool for school.
We did it. Tomorrow will be the end of our first two weeks at Primrose. Miles has been a big boy. Here's a recap.
Day 1: Wednesday, November 7th.
-We were all a little depressed about the election results but it was nice to have something to take our minds off of Miles starting school. Ben worked open until noon so it was me to take Miles. He was great all morning. We went there and he sat with me for a bit in the room and then would go play and come back to make sure I was still there. I sat with him for about 10 minutes and chatted with his teachers. I told "Miss Beth" that next time he got up to play I was going to jet outta there. Thats exactly what happened. I am thankful no one was in the office because I didn't want to stop to talk. I wasn't upset but I knew it would make it harder if I stopped to chat at the office and could hear him crying in the room. I called to check on him around lunch and they said he was doing great but was upset at lunch time. He didn't want to eat and didn't want to sit at the table. Ben went to get him early with it being his first day and walked in the room, looked around, then looked down and saw Miles passed out curled up on a cot. Breaks my heart. So he left and they called him when he woke up and Ben went back to get him.
Day 2: Friday, November 9th.
-We went to breakfast and loaded Miles up with food for fear that he wouldn't eat at school. Then I took him over, preparing myself for the worst. I remember when I worked there and it was always the 2nd and 3rd days that were the hardest for kids because the first day they kind of think it might be a one time thing. The following days they realize this is becoming a routine. Miles did great at drop off. Kind of the same thing. I took him in, sat down for a few minutes, and got up and left when he went to play. When I went to pick him up they said he had a bit of a rough day and didn't eat much and it took them a while to get to sleep. That was expected, I was just glad we made it out of the first week with no injuries or throw ups.
Day 3: Wednesday, November 14th.
-I took Miles to school again and Ben picked up. It was a great day. He sat at the table and ate lunch, took an hour and a half nap, and they said he was in a good mood all day. Ben went to pick him up and he immediately started blowing kisses to his teachers and friends. I think he will really like it once he gets used to their schedule.
His teachers are as sweet as can be. On Wednesdays he has Miss Beth and Miss Kelly and on Fridays he has Miss Beth again and Miss Ashley. I think he is closest to Beth because he is with her both days. I am nervous for her though. Miles loves to grab peoples noses and she's got her nose pierced. I want to warn her but don't want her to think I don't like her piercing. I'll just wait and hope he doesn't do it. She is seriously the friendliest girl ever. She has been sitting with him in the rocking chair two out of the three times we have picked him up so far. Also, last week was just rough in that class. Out of 10 toddlers in the room, they had 4 new ones starting last week. Those poor teachers. He also has a friend named Alexis in his class. She just looks like a funny girl and like she has an awesome personality. She gave Miles a hug while I was there on the first day and she always has some sort of animal on her shirt that Miles is always intrigued by. Yesterday it was a bunny. The first day it was a cat (a true match made in heaven).
That's the recap of the first few days! I am relieved that it is over and going to get better from here, aside from a few colds here and there. Next up, Thanksgiving!!! Yay!!!
Photos to come. I'm on my new computer and haven't figured out where they all go yet. :)

Myrtle.
We are suckers for good, nice, local places we can shop. Altums is one of those places. I love an excuse to go there, partly to look and partly so miles can visit with their cat, myrtle. He's so gentle with him and just smiles in his face and points to his nose. I've told Ben before about how miles loves myrtle and altums. Today was bens stay-at-home dad day with miles. He said he took miles to altums today to talk to myrtle and buy pumpkins. How sweet is that? It just put a smile on my face to pull in the driveway to see three pumpkins awkwardly spaced out on the porch, one for me, Ben and a little one for miles in the middle. Happy fall y'all!

20 months!
This month will be busy, but in a hopefully good way. This weekend I'm having a garage sale and a shower and Ben goes on a fishing trip. Then the third weekend Ben is off so we are heading to Chicago for a night just for fun. Linda and her family are going to Greece for an extended fall break so Grammy Marcia is going to help out a few days here and there while she is gone. In November, big Miles makes his debut at Primrose. I'm sure he'll do fine when he gets used to it, but I'm gearing myself up for some big tears from all of us those first few days. I don't feel like he is a shy boy and I think he plays pretty well with others but he is always with people he knows well, and these will be new faces for him. We will see. I'll try dropping him off the first day but hopefully I'm not back by noon to pick him up! He's so funny lately and I feel like he is finally to the point where you can kind of talk to him/reason with him a little. For example, he gets in the car better if you tell him we're going to drive to look for horses. Then when I slow down and roll his window down, he leans up and says "oooooohhhhhhhhhh" if he sees a horse. If he doesn't see one and they are in the barn, he puts his hands up in the air and mumbles something like "where are they?"
As far as food goes, he still doesn't like real fruits and vegetables but his new thing is he loves pretty much anything dipped in ketchup, bbq sauce or ranch. Tater tots, french fries, chicken, pork, hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, grilled cheese. I started giving him some peanut butter and he loves it. He also loves chocolate milk and milk shakes (duh, who doesn't).
Last weekend I took him to Huntington with me because Ben had to work open to close for a few consecutive days (is it winter yet??) We left at his nap time so he slept for about an hour of the way. Then Erin let me borrow her dvd player so he watched a baby einstiein. *Side note: After borrowing that little piece of gold, I sent Ben to target and he came home with a 2 pack of dvd players. Love him. Anyways, Miles loved Huntington. A huge yard to run around, and a grandpa giving him EVERYTHING he wants. I told my dad miles likes bobcats and dozers so one of the driveways didn't even need it but dad said "well, I guess I could grate the driveway" so Miles stood and watched the bobcat go back and forth for quite some time. I got some cute pictures of him while he was watching. Now I think whenever he sees a bobcat he thinks grandpa is in it.

Watching grandpa.

Snooze on the way to Huntington.

Parkin' with Linda.

Mowing grandpas driveway.

Loving salsa.

Playing in rice!!!
